  • Cleaning. In diy car painting, you need to clean first the entire car before starting to paint, especially the surface to be painted. Use soap and clean water to wash your car. Apply grease or wax remover on stains and dry the car. After drying the car you can now remove the rust with sandpaper. Sand down the original coat with finer sandpaper. Completely removes all layers of old coat until it is smooth.
  • Masking. Cover the part of the car you don’t want to be painted, especially the wheels and windows by using towels or sturdy cloth before masking it with tape.

First you need to prime the entire surface, apply evenly to the car. To smooth out primer, block the primer with 400 grit sandpaper wrapped around rigid block. Now you can apply the first coat using paint gun with a full can of paint color you want to paint. apply 2 to 3 coats of paint and wait for 30 minutes each coat before applying the next coat. Once the coat is dry, you can now apply clear coat for three coats and wait for about 15 minutes each coat before applying the next clear coat.
