Automotive painting is a form of art. Auto painting by yourself may not be easy and it takes patience when painting your own car.
There are reasons why other people chose to do it by own auto painting because of expensive payment services by auto paint shop, and some people may not be satisfy with the outcome and prefer to do it by own auto painting. It is easy to learn painting your own car to save money. All you have to do is take patience and complete all the needed materials for auto painting by yourself.
Do it yourself auto painting may require or need the following:
- patience
- smooth and calm environment
- prepare materials needed such as:
- respirator mask
- goggles
- gloves
- painting suit
- compressor
- masking tape
- paint stirrers and buckets
- car paint (base coat and clear coat)
- filler materials to fill any rusted out holes such as:
- bondo
- fiberglass
- sandpaper
Painting your own car may take two days if it was prepped beforehand. Prepping includes rubbing down the old clear coats and the old color, so that the new paint can easily adhere. Auto painting by your self may require a lot of patience to accomplish the project successfully.
Follow the do it yourself auto painting general steps and complete each steps before moving to the next steps to avoid errors. One stage builds upon the other, do not rush each steps to prevent mistakes because errors cannot be concealed no matter how many coats you apply. Do it yourself auto painting steps include:
- sanding imperfections such as scratches
- apply body filler to fill rusted areas
- cleaning the surface to be painted
- put masking tapes to the areas you want protect from paint
- apply primer
- apply paint color for 3 coats
- apply clear coat for 3 coats
